In 2015, there was no escaping Donald Trump. The New York City real estate tycoon and businessman dominated the headlines thanks to his buzzworthy and polarizing campaign for the Republican presidential nomination.

Tonight, MSNBC premieres a new original documentary entitled Citizen Trump (airing at 7/6c). Hosted by Chris Matthews, the hour-long special chronicles Trump’s rise in politics by looking back at his personal life and career. In the exclusive clip below, the filmmakers explore Trump’s celebrity status and rapid expansion of his empire, thanks to the construction of high-profile casinos such as Atlantic City’s Trump Taj Mahal–where he rubbed elbows with Michael Jackson during the building’s grand opening.

“What everyone watching will have at the end of the hour is the strongest possible ammunition in any argument,” Matthews tells TV Insider. “Want to win the argument about Trump? Want the best case for and against him? Watch Citizen Trump.”

Citizen Trump is the first in a series of documentaries about the current crop of presidential candidates that will air on MSNBC.
