What’s Worth Watching: ‘Breaking Bad’ on SundanceTV, ‘The Twilight Zone’ on Syfy and more for Wednesday, December 30

Breaking Bad - Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul - '4 Days Out '
Lewis Jacobs/AMC/Everett collection

Classic TV alert, modern and vintage editions: In this rare sleepy TV week, before an eruption of new shows in January, there are two opportunities to dig in from the beginning with some of the greatest TV ever produced.

For those craving a Breaking Bad fix, or if you’re still among those wondering what all the fuss was about, SundanceTV is replaying Vince Gilligan’s tragicomic masterpiece of criminal reinvention from the beginning, with four-episode mini-marathons every Wednesday starting at 9/8c. Bryan Cranston’s career milestone performance as Walter White, milquetoast-turned-meth mastermind, won four Emmys. It’s a dramatic evolution that shouldn’t be missed.

An annual treat takes on a new dimension in Syfy’s 21st New Year’s Eve-and-beyond marathon of Rod Serling’s mind-teasing and oh-so-influential 1960s The Twilight Zone anthology. All 156 episodes will air in order (starting at 7/6c with the haunting “Where Is Everybody?”), shown for the first time in HD, in an 87-hour wallow that wraps on Sunday. (The only interruption will be for a New Year’s Eve installment of WWE SmackDown, from a very different zone indeed.)

FROM THE STREAM: Have a classical gas with the entire 10-episode second season of Amazon Prime Video’s sophisticated comedy Mozart in the Jungle, available Wednesday. Golden Globe nominee Gael Garcia Bernal stars most charmingly as the brilliantly mercurial maestro Rodrigo, whose stewardship of the New York Symphony hits some sour notes as the orchestra considers a labor strike during tough contract negotiations.

It’s not exactly Air Force One, but President Obama enjoys his ride in a 1963 Corvette Stingray Split Window Coupe alongside Jerry Seinfeld, as Crackle kicks off a new season of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee (11:30/10:30c) with the commander (if not comedian) in chief in the passenger seat.
