First Look: ‘The Goldbergs’ Get Stuck on a ‘Christmas Story’ Moment (PHOTO)

“Growing up, I dared Barry to do the craziest things and he’d always say yes,” explains executive producer Adam F. Goldberg of the real-life shenanigans he shared with his brother. “It got so bad that my mom put a ban on all dares. This is exactly what we did in the episode! ”

In the December 9 episode of ABC’s comedy, Adam (Sean Giambrone, near left) convinces Barry (Troy Gentile), “who fancies himself a man without fear,” to lick a frozen pole.

Goldberg wanted to pay homage to the classic A Christmas Story because “this movie was about my family. It resonated so deeply with me. A grumpy dad who cursed, two brothers who punched each other, a protective mother. I obsessively watched it year-round.” Goldberg also added, “In many ways, both A Christmas Story and The Wonder Years are the reasons I created the Goldbergs.”
