The Walking Dead has found its new big bad.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Grey’s Anatomy) has been cast as the AMC’s drama’s next major villain, Negan, who first appears in issue #100 of Robert Kirkman’s comic book series. The casting was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter and TV Line.

Morgan, who can currently be seen on the CBS legal drama The Good Wife as investigator Jason Crouse, is expected to make his first appearance on The Walking Dead sometime this spring during the second half of the sixth season.

Negan is most memorable in the comic book series for killing Glenn with a spiked bat named Lucille. When TV Insider spoke to executive producer David Alpert about Glenn’s ambiguous fate on the television series, Alpert hinted at Negan’s impending introduction.

“I would love nothing more than to get Negan into the show,” Alpert said. “I think Negan is one of the greatest villains ever. Robert Kirkman is a sick f–k the way that he wrote that scene because it is still perhaps the most single disturbing image I’ve ever seen in a comic book. But I don’t necessarily think it’s exclusively connected to Glenn to introduce Negan.”
