ABC has refilled its Dr. Ken prescription.

The show is the first half-hour to earn a full-season pickup this fall. ABC has ordered nine more episodes of the Ken Jeong comedy, bringing the freshman year total to 22.

Dr. Ken, which airs Fridays at 8:30/7:30c on ABC, has averaged 6.6 million viewers and a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49. The show is No. 1 in its half-hour in the demo. Dr. Ken is also posting the highest retention of any comedy ever on Friday behind its lead-in, Last Man Standing. That makes Dr. Ken ABC’s top-rated comedy in the time slot in three years.

Based on Jeong’s pre-acting life as a physician, Jeong plays an irreverent general practitioner who is also a husband and the father of two. Suzy Nakamura, Tisha Campbell Martin, Jonathan Slavin, Kate Simses, Albert Tsai, Krista Marie Yu, and Dave Foley also star.

Jeong (The Hangover, Community) executive produces with Mike Sikowitz, John Davis and John Fox. Dr. Ken comes from Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios.
