The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Clara (Jenna Coleman) are about to embark on their wildest adventure through space and time when BBC America’s Doctor Who returns for its new season on Saturday, September 19.

“It’s the glory days of the Doctor and Clara,” executive producer Steven Moffat said at the Television Critics Association press tour on Friday. “They’re having the best time ever, so what could possibly go wrong?”

Coleman, who appeared alongside Capaldi via satellite from the U.K. set, noted that the events last year have changed Clara’s spirit. “Her perspective on life has changed,” she said. “There’s more of a fearlessness and a reckless abandon.” And the Doctor himself cuts loose as Capaldi puts his real-life electric guitar skills to use on screen. “It’s very loud and very fuzzy,” he said. “I’ve always wanted [the Doctor] to plug it into the top of his console.”

The new season also includes a guest stint from Game of Thrones favorite Maisie Williams, but Moffat was mum when pressed for details on her character. “It’s a significant role and she’s terrific in it,” he said. “It will develop in unexpected ways, and she’s not playing a returning character or someone from the Doctor’s past.”

As Capaldi begins his second season in the iconic titular role, he would not comment on how long he will commit to the character. “Certainly until the end of September,” he cracked. Joked Moffat: “Peter is going to play the part until the rest of time. It’s in his contract.”
