Ryan Phillippe’s ‘Shooter’ Renewed for Season 2

Ryan Phillippe and his new action drama Shooter received a holiday present today in the form of a second season renewal from USA Network. The series, which launched this fall on the cable network, is an adaptation of the 2007 Mark Wahlberg film of the same name, which itself was taken from the best-selling novel, Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter. Wahlberg also serves as an executive producer on the series.

The fast-paced drama kicked off with Bob Lee Swagger (Phillippe), a retired war veteran and shooting expert, being called in by the FBI (led by Omar Epps) to help prevent the assassination of the President of the United States. However, it becomes clear quickly that Swagger is really being set up for the assassination, and after the shooting happens (an archbishop is hit instead of the President) he must go on the run to clear his name and protect his family. The series also stars Shantel VanSanten, Cynthia Addai-Robinson and Eddie McClintock and was developed by executive producer John Hlavin.
