LOS ANGELES, CA - SEPTEMBER 18: Host Jimmy Kimmel speaks onstage during the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards at Microsoft Theater on September 18, 2016 in Los Angeles, California.

The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards opened up with a funny sketch that had Jimmy Kimmel hitching rides to the Microsoft Theater from various Emmy nominees, from Malcolm-Jamaal Warner in The People vs. O.J. Simpson’s white Bronco to James Corden Carpool Karaoke-ing to Wham!. Our favorite bit, though, had to be Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Veep‘s Selina Meyer being extremely dismissive of the Emmy host, with Jeb Bush as the limo driver.

His monologue talked about diversity and how Mark Burnett is responsible for Donald Trump running for president. He also talked about the “Maggie Smith rule,” saying that if a winner isn’t there to get their Emmy, it goes to the next person. “She’s Downton Absent for the ninth time,” he said, following it up with, “She’s treating us like the People’s Choice Awards.”

Kimmel had one of the best lines of the night, about Transparent being in the comedy category: “Transparent was born a drama but it identifies as a comedy.” He later had his “Ellen selfie” moment, having the Stranger Things kids pass out peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to the audience, all of which were made by his mother. “If you’re allergic to peanuts, you’re doomed, because we could only afford one EpiPen.”
