Fox put more truth out there today with a rich 21-minute preview of The X-Files. The six-part miniseries (which picks up nearly eight years after the second X-Files film) will feature four standalone installments bookended by two episodes that delve further into the series’ extra-worldly mythology.

When we meet Agents Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Mulder (David Duchovny) again, they’re estranged (but as flirtatious as ever) and still brooding over their son—whose mysterious conception, according to creator Chris Carter, fans may finally learn. Here are the four other things we learned from the behind-the-scenes featurette.

A woman from Mulder’s past is making a comeback. Actress Annet Mahendru will appear in episode 1 as a “young alien abductee” named Sveta, whom Mulder has met before. Per the actress, “The story is going somewhere really, really fascinating and something that’s very timely right now. Chris [Carter] has tapped into something very important.”

Joel McHale plays a conservative conspiracy theorist. The Soup and Community star is one of many guest stars, but what’s most surprising is that he plays a famous conservative who’s also a serious conspiracy theorist. In fact, his character will see various forms of alien and government deception everywhere. His need to confer with Mulder is what starts the main story. Says McHale, “I start a ball rolling that turns into a boulder.”

The Smoking Man (William B. Davis) survival will be explained. As previously announced, Mulder’s archenemy, The Smoking Man will make an appearance as well. This time, though, fans will get an explanation as to how he survived burning to death in a missile blast at the end of Season 9.

Scully and Mulder’s relationship may be different from what you know. Hints have been dropped about Scully and Mulder’s life together, including their child. This time, viewers will learn what happened to that child…and get a glimpse into how the couple’s life together has evolved.
