The Windy Cindy will get a lot more crowded when Dick Wolf’s Chicago Med joins its sister shows, Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. So it wouldn’t be out of place for Detective Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) or Fire Lieutenant Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) to step through the hospital’s doors.

“Every episode, you will see someone interacting [with others] from another show, cause those three communities work in tandem,” says S. Epatha Merkerson, who plays Sharon Goodwin, the chief administrator.

As for the doctors and nurses under her administration, they include: Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt), the head psychiatrist; Dr. Ethan Choi (Brain Tee), a former troubled youth who’s now a third year resident; Dr.Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss), a trauma doctor and brother of P.D.‘s Detective Halstead; Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell of The Affair and Arrow), an attending ER physician; and April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta), the head nurse and on-off flame of Chicago Fire‘s Severide (Taylor Kinney).

To give the show authenticity, the cast worked with doctors to learn how to handle medical tools, how to dress and how to develop good bedside manner. “For us…they’re the true heroes, and we only want to pay homage or, in essence, be as authentic to them as possible,” says Tee.

Chicago Med, Series premiere, Tuesday, November 17, 9/8c, NBC
