The first Television Industry Advocacy Awards benefitting The Creative Coalition in partnership with TV Guide Magazine and TV Insider brought out TV’s top talent on September 18. The event recognized 10 TV stars who hace supported important social causes and charitable organizations.

“There’s more to Hollywood than just making TV shows or making movies,” said Neal Baer (Under the Dome). “It’s about how you give back, how you get involved, how you can make a difference.” For Baer, how stories are told can inspire others and help them connect with each other. Added Alfre Woodard (The Last Ship), “We tell stories because we want to reach people. And when you do that, you have to care about the quality of people’s lives.”

Watch the red carpet video above as some of the honored celebrities, which also included Laverne Cox (Orange Is the Black), Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent) and Constance Zimmer (UnREAL), shared why advocacy is important.
